Mae Evans is a computer science student at BYU and a software engineering intern at Smarty, where she brings curiosity, creativity, and a love of problem-solving to her work. What first drew Mae to programming was its puzzle-like nature—the satisfaction of breaking down complex problems and finding elegant solutions. Once she discovered how much creativity the field allows, she was fully hooked.
Before joining Smarty, Mae worked as a backend developer at the BYU Law School, gaining hands-on experience building and supporting real-world systems. She has primarily coded in C++, Python, and JavaScript, and enjoys applying her technical skills in ways that are both thoughtful and practical. Mae is energized by learning, experimenting, and contributing to tools that are built to work well and last.
