Cookie Policy
Last updated June 5, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Smarty, LLC ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit www.smarty.com (our "Website"). It tells you what these technologies are, why we use them, who we share data with, and the choices you have.
This policy works alongside our Privacy Policy which describes how we handle personal information more generally.
Who we are
Smarty, LLC is a software-as-a-service provider that offers address validation, geolocation, and related data quality services and products to businesses. Our Website is aimed at business users — for example, individuals at companies who want to learn about our products, create an account, start a free trial, purchase services, download an e-book, or register for a webinar.
Although our customers are businesses, the people who visit our Website are individuals, and the cookies and similar technologies we use can collect personal information about those individuals. This Cookie Policy explains what we do with that information.

Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, when we add or remove tools, when our business changes, or when new laws or regulations apply. We will post the updated policy on this page and note the "Last updated" date at the top. If we make material changes that affect how we use cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner. Please re-visit this Cookie Policy regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies.
What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your computer or mobile device. They let the site recognize you on your next visit, remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is being used.
We also use technologies that work like cookies. The most common ones are:
- Pixels and web beacons — tiny invisible images that tell us whether you opened an email or visited a particular page.
- Tags and scripts — small pieces of code that load other services on our Website, such as analytics or chat tools.
- Local storage — areas of your browser where a website can save information without using a traditional cookie.
Throughout this policy, when we say "cookies", we mean cookies and these similar technologies.
First-party and third-party cookies
First-party cookies are set by us directly.
Third-party cookies are set by service providers we use — for example, analytics providers, advertising networks, customer support tools, and embedded content (such as videos). These third parties can recognize your device when it visits other websites that also use their services.
Session and persistent cookies
Session cookies last only while your browser is open and are deleted when you close it.
Persistent cookies stay on your device for a set period — anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of years — or until you delete them.
Why we use cookies and the specific cookies we use
We use cookies for the purposes summarized in the table below. The full, up-to-date list of cookies we set on our Website including the specific names, their duration, and a description of each is detailed therein. You may view and adjust your preferences at any time using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" or "Cookie Preferences" links in the footer of our Website. This list is updated regularly to reflect the cookies actually in use, which may change as we add or remove features.
Cookies and the actions you take on our Website
Many of the things you can do on our Website, such as creating an account, starting a free trial, purchasing services, downloading an e-book, or registering for a webinar, rely on cookies to work. For example:
- When you sign in to your account, we use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your session.
- When you fill out a form to start a free trial, request a demo, download a resource, or register for a webinar, we use cookies (including from our marketing tools) to recognize you, pre-fill information you’ve given us before, and follow up about your request.
- When you purchase services, we use cookies to process your transaction securely and to prevent fraud.
We use the information collected through these cookies together with the information you give us directly. The full picture of how we handle that combined information is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Our legal basis for using cookies
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar rules, we rely on the following legal bases for using cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies — our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and providing the Website, and/or our need to perform the contract you have with us.
- All other cookies — your consent, which we ask for through the cookie banner the first time you visit the Website and when we introduce new purposes or categories of cookies, and periodically in any event. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" or "Cookie Preferences" links in the footer.
If you are in the United States, we collect information through cookies as described in this policy and in our Privacy Policy. Where state law requires it, we provide ways to opt out of certain uses (see "Your choices" below).
Your choices
Cookie Preferences on our Website
When you first visit our Website, a banner presents cookie choices that vary by your location and conform to legal requirements or best practices in your location. You can change your choices at any time using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" or "Cookie Preferences" links found in the footer of our Website. Your choices apply on the device and browser you use to make them; if you visit our Website from a different device or browser, you will need to make your choices again.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Some browsers and extensions can send a Global Privacy Control signal. Where the law requires us to honor it — including for residents of California and several other states — we treat a GPC signal as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information collected through cookies on this Website
Browser controls
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Each browser is a little different; here are the help pages for popular ones:
Your rights
If you are in the United States
Depending on where you live, U.S. state privacy laws (such as those in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others) may give you the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you.
- Receive a copy of that information.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Opt out of the "sale" of your information, or its "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Opt out of certain types of profiling or targeted advertising.
- Limit our use of sensitive personal information.
- Be free from retaliation for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@smarty.com. Our Privacy Policy explains how we verify and respond to these requests.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data or complete incomplete data.
- Ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances.
- Ask us to restrict how we use your data, or object to certain uses.
- Receive your data in a portable format, or ask us to send it to another organization.
- Withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@smarty.com. Withdrawing your consent does not affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
"Sale" and "sharing" of personal information
Some U.S. state laws define "sale" and "sharing" very broadly. When advertising cookies on our Website send information about your visit to advertising partners so that they can show you relevant ads on other websites, that activity counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising and, in some cases, as a "sale" because Smarty receives value other than money.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of minors under the age of 18. If you want to opt out of sale or sharing, you may reject Marketing and Advertising cookies accessible from the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" or "Cookie Preferences" links or send a Global Privacy Control signal.
International transfers
We are based in the United States. Some of the cookie providers we use are also based in the United States or in other countries outside the EEA, the UK, or your home country. Where required by law, we put appropriate safeguards in place for these transfers — for example, the EU and UK Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards by contacting legal@smarty.com.
Do Not Track signals
Some older browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no common standard for how websites should respond to these signals, our Website does not respond to them. We do, however, honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as decribed above.
Children
Our Website is intended for business users and is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18 through cookies. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact legal@smarty.com and we will take appropriate steps.
