This guide will also help you understand how Dutch address validation and verification work, whether you’re sending mail or processing address data programmatically via an API.

Let’s explore some of the generalities of address formatting in the Netherlands. The Dutch address format for shipping or mailing addresses should be written as follows:

  1. Addressee line - The recipient's full name, using appropriate titles like "Dhr." (Mr.) or "Mevr" (Mrs./Ms.).
  2. Street name and house or building number - The street address, including the street name, followed by the building number. They should be included in that order.
  3. POSTAL CODE and LOCALITY NAME - Include the postcode, then in all caps and following a space, write the alphabetical portion of the postcode. After another 2 spaces, include the locality name, again in all capital letters.
  4. COUNTRY - Write “NLD” in all caps on the last line.

Address validation and verification in Netherlands

When working to validate Netherlands addresses in real-world applications, formatting alone isn’t always enough for your use case. Many businesses need to take address intelligence a step further: validate, verify, and standardize addresses. This ensures accuracy for shipping, logistics, billing, compliance, and more.

Address validation in the Netherlands involves checking address standardization against the Netherlands’ local postal standards, but it also confirms that the address exists and matches an authoritative database.

If you’re building applications or handling large datasets, using a Dutch address verification API can automate this process in real time, as well as retrieve missing or incomplete address information that might be helpful for your organization’s use case, like RDI or DPV.

Whether you’re validating a single address or processing millions, having access to reliable Dutch address validation tools ensures better data integrity and fewer failed workflows caused by bad address data.
