Adding ZIP+4 Codes to addresses

A lot of customers ask us how they can add ZIP+4 Codes to their addresses. Even though the US Postal Service doesn't require +4 Codes for the delivery of individual mail pieces, using those extra digits minimizes manual handling of mail and guarantees the best possible delivery speed and accuracy. The good news is that, using Smarty, you can perform a full ZIP Code lookup and append +4 Codes to thousands of addresses in just a few minutes. And what's more, the same process will scrub your addresses for you, normalize them to USPS standards, and let you know if any of them are not actually deliverable by the USPS.

Here's what you do:

  1. Purchase a monthly plan. Just go to our pricing page and click on "Buy now" for the plan you need, based on how many addresses you want to process. If you don't already have an account, the purchase process will include creating one. (Purchased plans are set to auto-renew by default. You can easily cancel the auto-renewal, once you purchase a plan, by going to your subscriptions page, clicking on the auto-renew drop-down menu, and choosing "Off.")
  2. Process your address list, using the Bulk Address Validation Tool. Click here to see a helpful video and step-by-step instructions. When you get to the tool itself, leave "Step 1" set to "validate US addresses."
  3. Once the output data is pasted into your spreadsheet, find the 9-digit ZIP Codes in the column titled [full_zipcode]. If you need the +4 codes all by themselves, you can find them off to the right in the column titled [plus4_code]. As you can see, there are a lot of output fields. They are all explained right here.
