One of the most popular and successful movie franchises—by far—is George Lucas' Star Wars. The impact Star Wars has had on the culture of the United States and the rest of the world is incredible.

From 1977 on, Hollywood has been producing large, fantastical blockbusters packed with practical and computer-generated special effects. Movies have started being considered based wholly on the merchandise they could sell. Toy laser swords have been selling like hotcakes, and every child finds themselves secretly trying to turn off the light from their bed using the Force.

Beyond the entertainment industry, Star Wars has also impacted politics and religion. Government military projects in the 80's were nicknamed "Star Wars." In 2021, over 390,000 people stated "Jedi" as their religion in the England and Wales Census, making it the fourth largest reported religion in the country.

Star Wars was the first major motion picture translated into Navajo.

Ok, ok, you get it. Star Wars is a big deal.

Similarly, though to a smaller extent, address validation has intensely impacted almost every industry on the planet. So, to celebrate this year's Star Wars day (May the fourth be with you), we're going to outline some similarities between the fictional Star Wars and the real-life Smarty™ address validation.

  1. The Galactic Empire and incomplete or inaccurate address data - Both evil
The Galactic Empire, headed by the manipulative and conniving former Senator Sheev Palpatine, was evil. From an objective perspective, it caused more problems than it solved. It introduced some horrible practices into that far-away galaxy, ultimately leading to its downfall.

Similarly, allowing incomplete or inaccurate addresses into your database may seem like no big deal, but it will inevitably cause more problems for you. Much like a galactic government should be operated by honorable and above-the-level individuals, your address database should only allow the most trusted addresses in.

  2. The Rebel Alliance and Smarty address validation - The heros
In the early days of the evil Galactic Empire, there were many small uprisings trying to quell the onslaught of terrible atrocities committed by the new government. Unfortunately, something more concentrated and collected is needed to overcome a large problem as big and powerful as an empire. Luckily, a lot of like-minded and influential people put together the Rebel Alliance to pool their resources and advanced technology and finally take on the empire head-to-head.

Smarty is the Rebel Alliance for anyone trying to take on the monster problem of bad address data. We've brought some of the smartest coders, the most clever resources, and the most advanced technology known to mankind to ensure that we can tackle the challenge of bad address data directly. Bring it on.

If you want to win this fight, you don't want to join a small, quickly-squashed uprising; you want to join the full-on rebellion. That's Smarty.

  3. The force and Smarty's algorithms
In the words of the renowned Jedi master Yoda, "For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is." The Force is the magical essence that Jedi tap into so they can reach their most powerful potential. Yoda continues, "Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future, the past. Old friends long gone."

Smarty's address validation and geocoding tools utilize intelligent algorithms that are not unlike the Force. Utilizing Smarty for your address data needs will help you to see things, places, and other data that will help you attain your highest potential.

You can learn a little more about these algorithms here.

Clearly, you can’t afford Revenge of the Bad Addresses. Don't try to survive an Attack of the incorrect Addresses. It's time to go Solo: A Smarty Story. Don't let your address database become a Phantom Address Menace.

Use Smarty to clean your address database.

May the Force validate your addresses.

A spicy take on address autocomplete and verification
Arrow Icon
Do you know what's more satisfying than watching address autocomplete perfectly fill out online forms? Absolutely nothing—except maybe biting into a warm cinnamon roll on National Cinnamon Day. Mmmmmmm. Speaking of warm and sweet experiences, today we're exploring how address autocomplete (when configured without best practices in mind) can turn from a delightful treat into a bitter disappointment and how address verification can save the day. Personalize the experienceYou know how cinnamon shows up uninvited in every fall-themed product from September through December? No one asked for that, and it's pretty presumptuous.
How property data APIs streamline utilities and mortgages

According to a study by AIThority, the mortgage industry hasn't quiiiiiite caught the vision of property data analytics. More than a third of lenders (37%) are what we might call property data dabblers—they've got access to the basics but not much more. Another 36% of mortgage businesses have enough game to conduct descriptive, post-mortem analyses. Still, a mere 3% of companies are found worthy of wielding a property data API for effective prescriptive analytics. For mortgage, repair, and utility companies willing to put in the work, a proper analytics program fueled by address data APIs is a game-changer.
Inside Smarty® - Caroline Roweton

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it a zillion more times—nobody puts the “care” in Caroline as Ms. Roweton does! Often referred to as the chill vibes chick around the office, Caroline has a calming presence (unless she’s pulling some seriously rad pranks like stealing Randy Buttons in the dark of night and holding him hostage for days). As an Associate Product Manager, Caroline is responsible for researching and defining Smarty’s international products. She also performs competitive research, communicates with customers, gathers and prioritizes feature requests from them, supports sales through custom deals and pricing, and is pretty much just a superhero.
